The only FDA-approved PLLA facial injectable proven to stimulate your own collagen production, with results shown to last up to two years.
Sculptra® is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) facial injectable, a biodegradable material that’s been used safely in medicine for years, including as suture material. Rather than simply filling in volume the way a traditional filler does, Sculptra® works with your body. I’s injected into areas of volume loss and gradually induces your own collagen production in the treated area, addressing an underlying cause of facial aging rather than just masking it.
Results build gradually across a series of treatments, typically an average of three sessions over a few months. Clinical studies have shown results lasting up to 25 months, with 80% of patients rating their results as good to excellent at that 25-month mark.
Sculptra® is used to correct shallow to deep wrinkles and hollowing across several areas:
Sculptra® is a good fit for patients noticing volume loss, hollowing, or deeper wrinkles who want a gradual, natural-looking result built from their own collagen. Because it works over a series of treatments, it suits patients who are comfortable with a multi-visit plan rather than a single appointment.

Results develop gradually over a few weeks as your body’s own collagen builds, and can last more than two years.
Sculptra® requires no allergy testing prior to injection, since it doesn’t contain animal components.
Sculptra® is injected along with a fluid solution. Typically, one to three vials are used per session.
The extra fluid injected alongside the Sculptra® is reabsorbed within a few hours. You can apply makeup several hours after treatment, and many patients return to work the next day.

Typically, two to four treatment sessions are required over a span of a few months. The amount injected varies depending on how deep the wrinkles are, how much volume has been lost, and where they’re located. Your provider will make specific recommendations at your free consultation.
Results appear gradually. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see immediate results. The PLLA acts as a collagen activator, and your own collagen will gradually develop over a few weeks. It will likely take more than one treatment to achieve your full result.
The extra fluid injected alongside the Sculptra® is reabsorbed within a few hours, and you may have slight swelling in the treated area that generally resolves in 1 to 2 days. Bruising can sometimes occur. You can apply makeup several hours after treatment, and many patients return to work the next day.
Sculptra® has been FDA-approved since 2004. It doesn’t contain animal components, so no allergy testing is needed prior to injection. Side effects may include pain at the injection site, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching, lumps, bleeding, or swelling.
Cost varies by patient, depending on the number of vials used per session. Generally, sessions use one to three vials, with two to three sessions needed for complete correction, spaced six to eight weeks apart.
