A light-guided procedure that maps and releases the individual fibrous bands causing a dimple, typically in a single session with results that last since the released bands don’t reform.
Cellulite affects an estimated 80 to 90% of women at some point in their lives, showing up as a dimpled or lumpy texture on the thighs, buttocks, and sometimes upper arms. No amount of dieting, dry brushing, or over the counter cream will make it disappear, since cellulite isn’t a weight problem. It’s a structural one. Our physician-led team offers real, evidence based options for treating it at the source.
How It Happens
Cellulite forms when fat pushes up through fibrous connective tissue bands called septae, which run beneath the skin and connect it to the muscle layer below. In women, these bands are typically arranged in a way that lets fat push through more easily than it does in men, which is part of why cellulite is so much more common in women overall. As those bands tighten and pull the skin downward while fat cells beneath them enlarge, the result is the dimpled appearance most people recognize. Genetics plays a significant role in who develops cellulite and how visible it becomes, and factors like skin thickness, hormonal changes, and natural aging can all make it more noticeable over time, even in people who maintain a healthy weight and stay active.
There’s no proven way to prevent cellulite, since genetics and hormones drive most of it. Staying at a stable weight and keeping up your muscle tone can keep it from looking more pronounced, but won’t stop it from forming.
