Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using fine needles to create thousands of micro injuries to the skin. The process stimulates the bodies natural healing response which leads to increased collagen and elastin. Increased collagen and elastin will give the skin a firmer, smoother and healthier appearance.
Microneedling can be used on the following areas:
Microneedling can also be used to help other topicals penetrate deeper into the skin such as platelet rich plasma, hyaluronic acid and many others.
Your licensed Lazaderm skin specialist will work with you to decide if additional treatments are needed as well as topicals applied with your treatment. Your treatment plan will be individualized for you at the time of your consultation.
Medical microneedling involves a medical-grade electric needling device that contains multiple needles. The micro-needling device glides along the skin making thousands of tiny punctures through the upper layers of skin. This can break down old scarring and increase collagen and elastin production.

Is there any downtime with medical microneedling?
You will have some slight redness and possibly a small amount of bleeding associated with microneedling treatments. This will depend on how aggressive the treatments are. The skin may remain a little pink for about two days. In general, we recommend to not wear makeup for 24-48 hours especially with a more aggressive treatment.
Are medical microneedling treatments painful?
At Lazaderm, we will apply a strong anesthetic cream to numb the skin. This topical is not available except under the direct supervision of licensed medical personnel. The topical will be applied for 20 – 30 minutes prior to your treatment. This will minimize discomfort during the procedure allowing the staff to be very aggressive with minimal discomfort.
What parts of the body can be treated with microneedling?
The great thing about microneedling is that it can be used on nearly all areas of the body that have intact skin.
Can microneedling be performed on any skin color?
Medical microneedling is safe on all skin types even persons of color. Unlike lasers, microneedling does not cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in patients with darker skin tones including those of African ancestry.
How many microneedling treatments do I need?
This will be somewhat variable. We recommend a minimum of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Acne scarring, scarring and stretch marks will require more treatments. Many patients complete a treatment every three months to maintain their results.
Will microneedling help with hair loss?
Yes, multiple studies show the benefits of medical microneedling patients with hair loss. This is true of both men and women. Studies show increased release of growth factors including the activation of stem cells and increased expression of hair growth-related genes. Topicals may be applied at the time of treatment. Microneedling will usually be recommended as part of an overall hair restoration program.
