Dysport® mirrors BOTOX® in cost even though it does require more units per treatment. During the injection, it has actually been found to spread a bit more which can be beneficial when treating larger areas such as the forehead or armpit (to eliminate excessive sweating).
Another great advantage is that Dysport has a faster onset of action than the other neurotoxins. This benefit makes it a great solution if you want to soften fine lines and wrinkles just in time for an upcoming special event!
Dysport is injected directly into the muscle. Similar to it’s competitors, it blocks the ability for the nerve to tell the muscle to contract. This is not permanent and must be completed every 3 to 4.5 months to maintain the best results.
Dysport® can be placed in the following areas:
***Some of these areas are considered an “off-label” use of Dysport®. It can also be used for hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating.

Is Dysport® different from BOTOX®?
Although botulinum toxin type A, is used to create Dysport® and BOTOX® there are a few slight differences. Dysport® spreads out a little further than BOTOX®. This can be an advantage when injecting Dysport® into areas like the forehead but a disadvantage for other areas like the glabella (frown line). When injecting Dysport® into the glabella region, it can spread further and affect the muscle of the eye that raises the eyelid. It does begin working faster than BOTOX® and will be at full benefit sooner than BOTOX®.
For the majority of patients, there is not a big difference between Dysport and Botox and they can be used interchangeably. Some patients may feel that one of them works better and may last longer for them. This is an individual preference for patients.
Who can inject Dysport®?
Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and registered nurses under the supervision of a physician can inject it. In some states, aestheticians can inject it, but we feel that is not appropriate as they have had little or no training on the facial vessels and muscles.
How much does a unit of Dysport® cost?
At Lazaderm®, we price by the unit since each individual case requires varying amounts of Dysport®. Compared to BOTOX®, Dysport® takes about three times as many units per area. We have priced 3 units of Dysport to be the equivalent price of 1 unit of Botox.
How long does it take for Dysport® to take effect?
It typically takes one to three days to start to see the gradual effects. We feel that Dysport® is at its maximum benefit by about one week. We ask our patients to wait two weeks to see the full effect.
How long do Dysport® injections last?
As with any injectable product, the duration will vary from patient to patient. Typically, Dysport® injections last around 3 to 4 months. We tell our patients that the first time it will last about two and a half months, the second time about three months and after that every three and a half to four and a half months on average. In order to see the best results, we recommend that you stay up on your Dysport® injections to maintain the best results.
How do I avoid Dysport® injection side effects?
The best way to avoid the side effects is by making sure that the person doing your injections is a licensed health professional. Icing the area before and after injections can decrease the risk of bruising. Some studies show that the use of arnica prior to injections may be beneficial. We also ask that you refrain from exercise after Dysport®, pressing on the area, or going to sleep for about six hours after your injections.
How many units of Dysport® are needed?
