A close-up of a person's collarbone area with a small heart tattoo is being treated with a tattoo removal device. The person operating the device is wearing a blue glove. The area around the tattoo is slightly reddened. A white towel is visible in the background.

Q-Switch Laser

The Q-switched laser is used to remove unwanted brown spots, sun freckles, or tattoos from your skin.

What is the Q-Switch Laser?

The Q-switched laser is great for those who have a few isolated colored spots, large or small, that you would like to remove. It is also effective against sunspots on the chest, arms, or legs. A single treatment usually removes an average of 75% or more of an individual brown spot. A second or, on rare occasions, a third treatment, may be needed to completely neutralize the color.

The Q-Switched laser is also effective in the removal of unwanted tattoos. During the removal procedure, laser light is applied to the tattooed area. The light is selectively absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, leaving the surrounding skin tissue and chromophores unharmed. The tattoo ink particles absorb the laser energy and shatter the ink into smaller particles.

In the days and weeks following a laser treatment, the body’s immune system flushes away the shattered ink particles, causing the tattoo to fade. Over a series of treatments, more and more of the ink shatters, leaving the skin more free of ink each time. The cost and number of treatments needed are dependant on size, color(s), age and whether it is professional or home-made.
