Cutera Excel HR
The Cutera Excel HR is a dual-wavelength laser that can be safely used for laser hair removal on all skin types. The Excel HR laser contains two different lasers in one platform. The long-pulsed 1064nm Nd:YAG laser can treat all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI) including patients with darker skin including patients of African ancestry. The Nd:YAG is less suited for patients with lighter and fine hair. The Nd:YAG works best on dark coarse hair. The 755nm Alexandrite Laser is better suited for lighter skin types with lighter hair and light skin (Fitzpatrick I to IV).
The Cutera Excel HR has a built-in sapphire tip that can cool the skin to 4 degrees Celsius. The sapphire cooling tip is in contact with the skin for every pulse. This helps to protect the skin and decreases the discomfort associated with pre-cooling the skin before each laser pulse. Other lasers use may use cold air blown on the skin or they use a spray of cryogen coolant just before the laser pulse.
