These bands are caused by contractions of the platysma muscle—a thin sheet that stretches from the neck up to the lower face—leading to visible lines and reduced jawline definition.

Pre-Procedure Instruction for BOTOX®:
Avoid products containing aspirin or ibuprofen for ten days prior to treatment with BOTOX® in order to minimize any chances of bruising. Do NOT stop aspirin if it has been prescribed by your physician.
Post-Procedure Instruction for BOTOX®:
After treatment, you should remain upright for six hours. Keep your head as erect as possible during this time and avoid bending down.
For six hours after BOTOX® injection, avoid:
Don’t fly on an airplane for 2 days after BOTOX® treatment.
Exercise the injected area 10 times every 15 minutes for the first hour by squinting the eyes, frowning, or wrinkling the forehead depending on the area injected. These exercises help work the BOTOX® into the muscles to increase the effectiveness of treatment.
The most common side effects include headache, respiratory infection, flu symptoms, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. In addition, there may be some temporary soreness around the injection area.
Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had the work" done. The muscle activity that causes the lines is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases.
It will take time for your wrinkles to go away. The skin will often repair the wrinkles on it's own with adequate and consistent treatment with Botox.
If you don't continue treatments, the lines will gradually return and look like they did before treatment.
