The Q-switched laser is appropriate if you have a few isolated colored spots, large or small, that you would like to remove. The Q-switched laser is also effective against sun spots on the chest, arms or legs. A single treatment usually removes an average of 75% or more of an individual brown spot. A second or, on rare occasions, a third treatment, may be needed to completely neutralize the color.
The Q-Switched laser is also effective in the removal of unwanted tattoos. During the removal procedure, laser light is applied to the tattooed area of the skin. The light is selectively absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, leaving the surrounding skin tissue and chromophores unharmed. The tattoo ink particles absorb the laser energy and shatters the ink into smaller ink particles.
In the days and weeks following a laser treatment, the body’s immune system flushes away the shattered ink particles, causing the tattoo to fade. Over a series of treatments, more and more of the ink shatters, leaving the skin more free of ink each time. Cost and number of treatments needed are dependant on size, color(s), age and whether it is professional or home-made.
