Restless Legs and Vein Disease

Have you ever experienced an overwhelming urge to move your legs in the middle of the night? Has this movement and irritability to move your legs keep you from relaxing in bed, and often robbing you of sleep? In many instances, these feelings subside when there is movement, such as walking around. This neurological disorder is quite common and referred to as Restless Leg Syndrome, or RLS.

Restless Leg Syndrome may often be traced back to venous insufficiency as the main cause. The venous insufficiency in our legs may be the cause of restless leg syndrome in over 50% of patients. Venous insufficiency and varicose veins are caused by non-functioning vein valves in the legs. This allows blood to pool in the veins causing inflammation in the legs, which may lead to symptoms of restless leg syndrome. A screening of the veins in the legs can show which veins are functioning properly and which have vein disease. The veins in your legs need to be healthy and properly functioning to help aid the blood flow from the legs back to the heart.

What causes RLS to happen is often a host of factors such as a family history, pregnancy, aging, venous reflux, iron deficiency, venous insufficiency as well as auto-immune disorders. Typically, RLS can be relieved through either varicose vein treatment, medication, compression stockings or a combination of these treatments. Through same-day treatment that is often covered by insurance, Restless Leg Syndrome can be properly taken care of and a good night’s sleep can be just one treatment away. If you have restless leg syndrome, schedule your free vein screening at Physicians Vein Clinics.
